I talked to Claudio prior to the event about the amount of Genex Undine

    s and Genex Controller

s he said that he was afraid of opening double Controller and drawing all 3 Undines. I told him if he thinks he will draw 5 out of 5 cards then he should play Exodia. In the first game I opened Undine, searched Controller, used Allure of Darkness

to draw the second Controller and in the rest of the game, I drew the other two Undines as well. The first game took us very long (about 30 min) because I had to play passively since he pushed early for a lot of damage but then my Leo, the Keeper of the Sacred Tree

    stalled vs his Mermail Abyssgaios

. When he summoned Mermail Abyssmegalo

    I used Breakthrough Skill

on it and he made a Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack

; his field was Dracosack, 1 Token and Abyssgaios; I drew Aquamirror Cycle

summoned Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls

    and Mermail Abysshilde

, used BTS on his Gaios, killed his board and I wouldn’t die to his Tidal crashing into my Hilde because I had Aquamirror Cycle to protect her and the rest of my Lifepoints.Game 2: I made a crucial mistake because I thought I could kill Beelze of the Diabolic Dragons

by battle but I still won.
Rd: 2 Dice: lost Vs: Trap-heavy Mermail Belgium 2:0
First Game he set 4 and I saw nothing but Mind Crush

    and Black Horn of Heaven

so I thought he would play Geargia but before I finished Game one he set an Atlantean Heavy Infantry

and so I knew what I was up against. We had a mid-round deckcheck and when the Judge came back he asked my opponent if his Deckbox was on the table during the game and he replied “Yes.”. Then the Judge asked me the same question and I assumed where this was going. I thought for a second if I should lie to prevent my opponent from a Gameloss because he was very nice and I think it was his first YCS; on the other hand I was afraid of consequences for lying to a judge and he already admitted it, so I truthfully said “Yes” and my opponent got a Gameloss because he had a second Deck in his Deckbox.
Rd: 3 Dice: win Vs: Evilswarm UK 2:1
    I opened 2 Mermail Abyssmegalo

    , Mermail Abyssleed

    , Mystical Space Typhoon

    , Mermail Abyssocea

    and Mermail Abyssgunde

. After I discarded an Evilswarm-card from his hand with Leed’s effect I knew what I was up against and decided to go with Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack

    + Mechquipped Angineer

to be safe from Number 101: Silent Honor Ark

. But two turns later when he used Dark Hole I got greedy and protected my Angineer and not Drackossack which ended in him making Evilswarm Exciton Knight

and that even cost me the Game. Game two I started with MST + Chain Whirlwind

which was super strong. Usually I always side out Allure of Darkness

because the chance of my opponent killing my whole hand with a single Mind Crush

is too high, but I was not prepared for Evilswarm and I had no set boarding plan so I kept Allure in hoping for the best. What will happen will happen and he mind crushed Genex Controller Game 3 in response to my Allure of Darkness, nevertheless I managed to win.
Rd: 4 Dice: lost Vs: Mermail Italy 1:2
Game One I opened Undine and Allure but I drew the second Controller with Allure of Darkness. Game 2 I could win and Game 3 I opened Controller again and he started with Leed discarding something else so I lost.
Rd: 5 Dice: lost Vs: Bujin France 2:0
My plan was to discard Tidal and Infantry to kill Kaiser Colosseum

then I would send something to the grave, summon Mermail Abysslinde

    attack into Bujin Yamato

, special summon Leed, attack into Yamato again, he would make Honest

to kill Leed which gets me 5 Water monsters in the Grave for my Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord

. More or less it worked out this way. Game 2 I used Mind Control

    and Number 11: Big Eye

to get rid of his Yamato.
Rd: 67 Dice: win Vs: Pure Spirit France 2:1
It was the first time that I played vs Spirit. Game 1 I started with the Combo and won (Mermail Abyssteus

+ Level 4 Mermail Monster). He was in a strong position game 2 so I gave up to have more time for the last game which I won.
Rd: 7 Dice: lost Vs: -Harpies France 2:1
I won the first game and he the second. The 3rd game started about 4 minutes before time-out and I had a hand which I couldn’t lose with, containing: Mermail Abyssmegalo

    , Mermail Abyssteus

    , Atlantean Dragoons

    , Solemn Warning

    , Aquamirror Cycle

    and Abyss-sphere

. Now I knew why it is so good to play the best Deck.

I faced my opponent from the 9th round again. I won the first Game although I drew Controller because he had a bad hand as well. Game 2 I drew Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord

    , Mermail Abysspike

    , Dark Hole

    , Aquamirror Cycle

    , Chain Whirlwind

    and Mind Control

    vs his set Geargiamor

    , Macro Cosmos

and lots of more backrow cards. I decided to set up a Dark Hole + Chain Whirlwind play. On the next turn I drew Abyss-sphere

and used Pike discarding Moulinglacia and he responded with Fiendish Chain. Next he MST’d my set Abyss-sphere so I was in a pretty bad position with only an Aquamirror Cycle and a Mind Control and he was just about to summon a rank 4 XYZ which I feared to be Gear Gigant X

, but it was Abyss Dweller

and my Mind Control + Cycle turned the game into my favour.

This was the Match I was most afraid of but in the End I won during time-out-procedure.
Top 8 Diceroll: lost Vs: Spellbook France 2:0
After winning the first game I had to make a hard decision during the second game. Since I play Yu-Gi-Oh! I tried my best to build my reputation of being a nice and good player and I think it worked out so far. But then my opponent made a mistake and I had the chance to become an asshole, but let me explain the situation before: He had a High Priestess of Prophecy

    (pushed by Spellbook of Power

    and Spellbook of Master

on Power) and Spellbook Magician of Prophecy

; I had Genex Undine and he attacked with Priestess and we wrote the damage, to make the game faster he asked: “500 more for Magician is also ok?” and I replied “Yes” and we both wrote the damage, then he wanted to search for Power and Master. I thought for a little while and then decided to not to let him search because Power is only an optional effect and if he does something between it is too late. My reasoning was: If I would really lose somehow this game and then the next one, I would hate myself for not taking this opportunity but I prefered to let someone else hate me and I did the “Asshole-move”. He appealed to the Judge but since he saw what happened he decided that he missed his chance.

Feature Match. After becoming an asshole I still had my reputation for being kind of good at this game. I also had a plan to change this. If you read both FMs you will find a lot of misplays of mine and I thought for a very long time how this could be possible because in swiss I didn’t play THAT bad. And I think I found the reasons:
First of all, I was still distracted because of the way how I won in the Top 8. Then I was nervous. It’s true, for the first time in a very long time I was nervous playing a Feature Match. Usually I love Feature Matches because my opponent is the nervous one and I’m confident with my deck. But this time I decided to play Mermail on Wednesday evening before the event and I clearly lacked practice. The reason I decided to play Mermail at all was because I had lots of experience playing against it.
Final Diceroll: win Vs: Evilswarm France 2:1
Feature Match. At least I could prove my point: It doesn’t take skill to win a YCS with Mermail ;)
I want to thank my whole Team for making this possible and giving me all infos I needed to play Mermail.

    CITAZIONE (Simone947 @ 26/4/2014, 14:24)
